Cruises are mostly pretty fun. You get to travel around for a while, visit foreign countries, and hang around old people who couldn't think of another kind of vacation. But sometimes cruises can be a little on the scary side. After all, if you go to shore but don't make it back by the time the ship leaves, you're in a lot of trouble. Not to mention, if you fall over the railing... that's about it for you. Cruise ship disappearances are a real thing, and they happen more often than you'd think.
Most of the time, people fall off the ship and disappear at sea. Sometimes, they simply vanish from the ship itself, never to be heard from again. It could be kidnapping or murder, but these cases almost invariably stump the FBI. So, next time you think about going on a cruise, check this list and make sure it's really what you want.
People Who Disappeared from Cruise Ships,
Amy Lynn Bradley
The Rhapsody of the Seas was en route to Curaçao, Antilles, in March 1998. Shortly after it docked, passenger Amy Lynn Bradley was confirmed missing. She was last seen in the very early morning with a member of the ship's band. There are several theories about her disappearance ranging from kidnapping to being killed after witnessing illegal activity.
Some people have reported sightings of her on beaches and in brothels in the Caribbean. Some have even claimed that she came up to them, told them her full name, and said she needed help. Because of this, it is thought that she may have been sold into sexual slavery.
Russel Rebello
In January 2012 (on Friday the 13th, no less) the Costa Concordia cruise ship sank off the coast of Italy. Russel Rebello, a waiter on the ship, was last seen alive helping passengers in rescue boats. Most people were rescued from the wreck, but thirty-two died. He is the only one who was never found.
Annette Mizener
Annette Mizener's beaded purse was found near a railing on one of the Carnival Pride's lower decks on December 4, 2004. The beads were scattered about the deck and there were spots of blood at the scene, leading her family to believe there was a struggle. A nearby security camera had been covered with paper, ensuring that whatever happened to her was not caught on tape. A 16-hour search found nothing. She has been presumed dead.
David Wayne Mossman
David Wayne Mossman a passenger on the Royal Caribbean ship Navigator of the Seas. He jumped overboard and fell 100 feet into the ocean on March 6th, 2016. He was heard arguing with his mother, who was also a passenger on the cruise, shortly before he jumped. He is presumed dead.
Samantha Broberg
The Carnival Liberty was on a journey from Texas to Mexico in May 2016 when passenger Samantha Broberg climbed one of the ship's railings and fell backwards into the ocean. Her fall was recorded by one of the ship's security cameras. The US Coast Guard engaged in a search and rescue mission but discovered no signs of her. The search has been called off and she is presumed dead.
Rebecca Coriam
Rebecca Coriam was a crew member of the Disney Wonder who went missing in March 2011. The ship was sailing from Los Angeles, CA to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and by the time it reached its destination, she was gone. Her parents discovered her bank account was being used weeks after she disappeared, which led them to believe she was kidnapped. She is widely presumed to be dead, but nothing has been confirmed.
Jennifer Ellis-Seitz
Jennifer Ellis-Seitz went missing on Christmas day, 2008. She was aboard the Norwegian Pearl cruise ship 50 miles east of Cancun. An FBI investigation concluded there was no foul play and her family believes she intentionally jumped from the ship. After an extensive search, her body was never recovered by the Coast Guard.
Clint Markham
In September 2011, Clint Markham fell from Carnival's Conquest cruise ship as it was sailing from Texas to Mexico. It was reported that he committed suicide, but Markham's wife claims it was merely an accident. He was severely intoxicated at the time, and his wife claims crew members overserved him, leading to his death. He has been presumed dead.
Kaylyn Rose Sommer
Diplo's Made Decent Boat Party took place on the Norwegian Pearl cruise ship in November 2015. Kaylyn Rose Sommer was attending the EDM cruise when she inexplicably jumped from the ship 22 miles off the Cuban coast. The Coast Guard covered 600 miles, but suspended their search after finding nothing.
Angelo Faliva
There was a restaurant on the Coral Princess called Sabatini's. That's where Angelo Faliva was last seen, working in the kitchen on November 26, 2009. He disappeared before his shift ended and has since been presumed dead.
